In 1993 Akaki Tsilosani made his PhD on "Influence of Magnetic Suspension on Blood Cell Morpho-Functional Condition".
At the end of 90s of the XX century Dr. Akaki Tsilosani became interested in surgical treatment of hair loss - hair transplantation, because he had this problem himself - androgenic alopecia. Soon he was fully engaged in this, a completely new field of medicine.

At the time when Akaki Tsilosani started doing hair transplantation, American surgeons - Bob Limmer, Robert Bernstein, William Rossman, David Seager and others, had already developed the technique of follicular unit transplantation using stereomicroscopes, but the whole world continued to transplant hair by micrografting, and little attention was paid to hairline design. Recipient sites for graft implantation were made with large blades. The grafts fell deep into the large recipient sites, which unfortunately reversed the orientation and contributed to the hair growing as if from small pits and in the wrong direction after transplantation.
At the beginning of his career in the field of hair transplantation, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani outlined to himself the main objectives, at achievement of which it was possible to speak about an excellent result of hair transplantation and all his scientific and practical activity was directed to their realization. These objectives were:
1. Naturalness of the results - the transplanted hair should look exactly as natural and it should be almost impossible to distinguish them;
2. The possibility to achieve high, preferably natural, density of the transplanted hair;
3. The possibility of achieving the above goals without complications of side effects;
4. The possibility to achieve these objectives with minimal discomfort for the patient, preferably in a single operation, and with the least possible material and time expenditures for the patient.
Thanks to many years of tireless work, extensive scientific research and implementation of more and more new technologies, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani managed to solve all these problems. He was the first in the post-Soviet space, who began to use stereomicroscopes for the preparation of grafts. Akaki Tsilosani developed his own method of local anesthesia, peculiarities of donor wound closure during FUT giga sessions and much more, which allowed Dr. Akaki Tsilosani to obtain excellent results and brought him worldwide fame.
In 2008 Dr. Akaki Tsilosani became a member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), in 2011 - Faculty of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, and in 2016 he became a Fellow of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery (FISHRS).

In 2019, he founded Tsilosani Hair Transplant Institute, which was built to a special design expressing Dr. Akaki Tsilosani's vision of what an ideal 21st century hair transplant clinic should be.
Dr. Akaki Tsilosani is married and has three children.

Achievements

Dr. Akaki Tsilosani has been working in the field of hair transplantation since 1999. He has performed more than 15000 successful hair transplant procedures during this period.
Dr. Akaki Tsilosani is the author of 42 scientific publications and 6 inventions in the field of hair transplantation. At the beginning of his practice in 2000-2010, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani specialized in FUT giga sessions and in achieving maximum density of transplanted hair. In 2008, he achieved a density of 100 follicular units in 1 sq/cm without decreasing the survival rate (92%). This is an absolute world record. Akaki Tsilosani's research in achieving high survival rate during dense packing was published in 2008 on the front page of the main scientific journal of hair transplant surgeons Hair Transplant Forum International, which brought the doctor worldwide fame.

In 2012, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani conducted a giga-session of a record scale - 9,688 follicular units (grafts) were transplanted in a single 11-hour session. This record remains unbeaten to this day.

In an effort to maximize the donor supply of patients in 2006, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani began combining FUT and FUE methods in a single session. Together with Robert True (USA) and Marcio Crisóstomo (Brazil), he is recognized as a pioneer of FUT and FUE combination technique.

In 2010, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani was the first surgeon in Europe who performed a Long Hair Transplantation surgery, which nowadays are a significant part of his work.

In addition to his scientific studies and private practices, Dr. Akaki Tsilosani has been teaching and training his colleagues from all over the world since 2009. Dr. Akaki Tsilosani conducts hair transplantation training courses not only in his institute in Georgia, but also in partner clinics in Russia and Ukraine.
